If YES:
Go to the official ICE Detainee Locator:
https://locator.ice.gov/odls/#/search

You will need either:

  • A-number (9-digit Alien Registration Number), OR
  • Full name, country of birth, and date of birth

Once located, write down:

  • Facility name
  • Address
  • A-number

Then continue to:

If NO:
Was the arrest very recent (within 12 hours)?

You may also call the ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) field office listed for your region.


Step 2 — Has the person signed anything?

If YES and unsure what it was:
Do not assume the case is over.
Contact a licensed immigration attorney immediately.

They may request to speak with an attorney before signing documents.


Step 3 — Is there a court date already?

Call the EOIR automated case line:

You will need the A-number.

If a hearing is scheduled, write down:

  • Date
  • Time
  • Court location

Step 4 — Immediate Family Stability

While legal review begins:

☐ Secure passports and immigration documents
☐ Review rent/mortgage due dates
☐ Arrange childcare if needed
☐ Document timeline of events
