About Icebound
Icebound is a nonprofit educational project created to help individuals and families understand how U.S. immigration detention and court processes work.
We exist to provide structured, practical information during moments that are often confusing and stressful. Our goal is not activism, protest, or political advocacy. Our goal is clarity.
We believe that understanding the system itsekf is structured, how agencies interact, what paperwork means, what timelines apply, and what resources are available, are the most effective ways to navigate it responsibly.
Our guides are written for:
• U.S. citizens with detained family members
• Lawful permanent residents
• Visa holders
• Undocumented individuals
• Mixed-status families
• Friends, employers, and community members trying to help
We focus on process literacy:
• How custody is confirmed
• How immigration court works
• How bond functions
• What documents mean
• What agencies do and do not do
We work within the system by helping people understand it.
What Icebound Is Not
Icebound is not:
• A law firm
• A medical provider
• A government agency
• A protest organization
• A political campaign
We do not provide legal representation.
We do not give legal advice.
We do not give medical advice.
Our materials are educational in nature and may contain errors or omissions. Laws and policies change. Facility rules vary. Always confirm details directly with official sources or a licensed professional.
Why We Exist
In uncertain times, confusion spreads quickly. Families often do not know:
• Which agency has custody
• What paperwork means
• Whether bond is available
• Where to send money
• How to contact a consulate
• Whether a court date exists
We organize reliable public information into clear, structured guides so people can move step-by-step instead of reacting in panic.
Working With the System
Our philosophy is simple:
Understand the system.
Work within the system.
Navigate the system responsibly.
Clarity reduces fear.
Structure reduces chaos.
Information reduces mistakes.
